"I discovered Frank Zappa about 4 years ago. I've just discovered an incredible tribute to that genius in Running with Scissors by Uncle Remus. This is an eclectic mix of everything, funk, electronica, jazz, etc. Just in the style of Zappa. He would be proud if he were around to hear it today, I'm sure. Running with scissors harkens to a lost time of experimentation, freedom and individuality that someone who was there could only appreciate. I wasn't but I've heard lots of good stories. I think this song sort of time travels ones soul back to that. We probably won't ever see that kind of phenomenon again and I can only imagine a world of cheap smokes, no seatbelts, no cameras, and where ideology meant something. I like this song. It makes me happy and wish for freedom, something that is fading so fast in this consumer world of ours. The musical talents of anyone who can pull of a tribute to Zappa so well cannot be questioned. The guitar work is excellent and creative. The bass line is likewise awesome. It is impossible to make any remarks on this song. It sets out to do what it intends and that is to showcase an incredible musician and his source of inspiration. It is an explosion of musical talent that caught me off guard. This is obviously a song that is well recorded but not intended to have mass appeal. I think everyone should listen to it and enjoy its impulsive child like fun, but remain cognisant of the technical skills required to appear so, and easily so. It is no small task. Zappa was the premier experimental artist in my mind. He didn't seem to take his music seriously and yet his music was always perfection in his own style. He freed himself of a traditional musical education, which he had, to turn around and teach everyone, who cares to listen, what music is all about. I wouldn't say this song does that but it is a remarkable tribute to it, and only a handful of artists could ever pull it off so well. It definitely passes on the lesson. Frank Zappa is one of my own inspirations and a genius the world is poorer for loosing. His music is old and dated, true but if you can listen to it and get something out of it, you will be a better artist for it. Give Running with Scissors a listen and see what I mean." - Mohi from GodsOfMusic.com ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ "My first review for Gods of music and, uh-oh... Frat Boy's paradise is the name of the song by a band called Uncle Remus. Valdez had a good time with this song, it has so much going on, left, right, sideways... I had to listen to it three times to get it all into my tiny little melon. The subject: Cow Tipping. The lyrics were truly hilarious and the Frank Zappa influence is rather obvious throughout the song. The female backing vocals were ridiculous and fun, spoofing FZ's backup singers to the hilt. The song makes some serious changes over to a satanic voice ala Zombie praising the many virtues and rewards to be had via Cow Tipping. Truly a Bud swiggin frat boy's song if I ever heard one; these guys had to have gone to Stanford. The many effects were imaginative and cool, and the lead vocalist sounds quite a lot like one of the National Lampoon schoolboys or maybe the cat from Green Day. I haven't been around cows much, being from L.A. and all, but I'm willing to bet that even they would get a kick out of this truly funny tune. My only problem with Frat Boy's Paradise is the fact that the Zappa formula is so closely imitated. His are big shoes to fill and although you have a pretty decent song here, it kind of makes me miss old Frank and the Montana dental floss tycoons. Great job guys, Im sure that you are aware that this kind of song can never make the top 40, but then, would you want it too? Let's keep Uncle Remus our little secret to be unleashed when the world is ready for more fun with music! Oh yeah ... and the spoof of the 'Atom heart mother' album cover was a nice touch as well." - Rick "Valdez" Whitehurst from GodsOfMusic.com
