Artist History
What Makes Mike iLL?
The influences, which create the Punk/Blues of Mike
iLL, are as complex as the emotions, which make up
human nature. A mix of hard hitting humor and
off-the-hook lyrical styling are an innovative addition to
the world of classic Blues, and a romantic attachment
to the movement of Punk, Hip Hop, and Rock ‘n’
Roll. The songs explore sexuality, spirituality, breaking
hearts and drugs false promises.
Mike (Kilmer) was born in Alabama, child of an
ex-priest and nun, civil right’s activists in the 1960’s.
They moved to Hoboken, New Jersey when Mike was
three, where he developed a life-long partnership with
Emilio China (AKA Zef).
Zef and Mike’s love of adventure has held them
together for over twenty years. They wrote their first
song together at age 8, ‘The Bottle Bust’ –
accompanied by the rhythm of breaking bottles. At 19
the two formed “Sweet Lizard Illtet”, and released a
self titled CD on Warner Brothers. In1992 “Sweet
Lizard Illtet” went on tour with Lollapalooza, sharing
the bill with Pearl Jam, Metalica, Ministry, and The Red
Hot Chili Peppers. The band would play Lollapalooza
again in 1997 as “Illness”.
“But wait… Mike iLL has also played with such
renowned musicians as Herbie Hancock, Billy Martin,
Macio Parker and many others, plus he travels
cyberspace with a vengeance. Now how much would
you pay?” |
