Artist History
HILO began circa 1996 in the vulcanized rubber town of akron ohio. Restless
and determined, guitarist wamis singhatat and bassist johnathan swafford,
left local math rockers ENGINCORE, and began collaborating with the vocalist
jenifer bair. Intertwining beautiful vocal melodies and dissonant guitar and bass song structures, the three started what would become THIS IS THE DESTROYER. The Thematic and artfully inspired HILO, soon found themselves playing shows without percussion. Drummers seemed unable to keep up with the rhythms or disinterested in creating something new. Their relentless searching led them to Patrick Ginley, whose enthusiasm matched that of the others. HILO was completed. When Wamis left for CA tostudy the processes and the mechanics of the human body, longtime friend Brian Ulrich of the Flying Carpet People joined
and brought with him the same idea of music HILO was trying so hard to create. HILO continues on. |

Press Reviews
Where do I begin? I could say you need to get this. It took me a few times through and a closer look at the beautiful package to get everything myself. But keener ears and eyes are kept busy as well. Concentrate. I'm trying to explain something here. This is complex music. Hideously gorgeous in it's design and mood. Flooring the listener with patient explosions of channeled pain and bright shots of curious verses. Similar to June Of 44 with a female singer and a more varied mix of instruments and songs. Recent strings of days have these haunting tones repeating in my head. I cannot get enough of this record. A debut from an Akron, Ohio five-piece. An amazing, amazing debut. Secure in its top-half spot in my list for 99, I can't imagine much better. You simply can't talk about this masterpiece without talking about the accompanying sleeve design. It is, without a doubt, the most beautiful andthoughtful example of good cover design that I've seen in years. Circa-Robot 01 is responsible. Praise these smart and talented people. Cambodia records, home of the great Craw, has hit the middle circle with this one. THIS IS THE DESTROYER.
