Artist History
As in most bands our history is long and winding. It all started with the end of "the ahead of its time" COW PUNKS. It was a guitar, bass, vocal trio with a drum machine tying it all together. Around '90 or '91 it came apart and two members, Dave Fraire (bass) and Goerge Flores (guitar) decided they worked pretty well together. They decided to carry on under the new name NEVERMORE. With human drummer Mike Zamora and singer Hugo NEVERMORE was underway. Cracks appeared soon however as Mike Zamora decided to quit and it was discovered that Hugo didn't much care for the tuning of guitars. So with a new singer; the deep Morrisonesque voiced John Thom the band carried on without a drummer (again). John was a creative force but soon he bowed out of the seen. George decided he was going to take singing duties this time. They did a few shows as a two piece (gtr. & drums) when their prayers were answered. The got a call from a young, intense Kent Kundert who was ready to do some serious drumming. His Keith Moom style of drums gave NEVERMORE a fresh young beat. A couple of years and a few recordings later Kent disappeared, literally. After a long painful search thet ended up with Gerardo sitting behind the drums. With Gerardo the band signed to a small San Diego label called Chainsaw Records. A few recordings later that deal soured and Gerardo skipped out of the group. However, upon signing they did recruit a new singer Dylan Martinez. Soon after that the band moved to the name BROKEN DIAL RADIO. B.D.R. played many great shows locally and even appeared on a few comps. Things seemed to be going really good. Kent even reappeared briefly and played drums. When he joined the Air Force Paul Chapman took over on drums. He helped carry the band a long for a couple more years. When Paul moved on to bigger things Mike Kamoo of the Melanies took over on drums but by then the momentum of the band was all gone. Dave and Georges long collaboration together finally ended in early 98 nearly 10 years after they started.
Mike, Dave and Dylan now play in STATIC HALO with Todd Woolsey on drums while George went on to make a solo record under the name MANGO. |
