Brian Nelson was born in Madison, Wisconsin in 1967. He received his Bachelor of Composition from the University of Michiganin 1990 where he studied with William Bolcom, William Albright and Nick Thorne. He is currently completing a Masters Degree inComposition at the University of Wisconsin, Madison where he has studied with Steve Dembski and Joel Naumann. He is a prolificcomposer of sacred music as well as chamber and orchestral works. Recent commissions include Tabernaculae Dei (SSAA),Psalm 100 (SATB, Recorder & Pno.), Just Yesterday (Soprano and Piano), and Sonata for Cello and Piano commissioned bycellist Pablo Mahave-Veglia and scheduled for premiere at the Chicago Cultural Center next season. His music is available throughNelson Musical Creations and Alliance Publications.The Reconciliation , a CD recording of his vocal and sacred works, was released in 1994 on the Musica Dei label and is availablethrough Nelson Musical Creations. His In the Beginning Was the Word - A Theological Tone Poem in One Movement was recentlyread by the Minnesota Orchestra, Scott Terrell - Associate Conductor, as part of the annual Perfect Pitch Orchestral ReadingSessions. The piece will be premeired by the Wisconsin Youth Symphony Orchestra, Saturday 11/11, 4pm, University ofWisconsin - Madison Mills Concert Hall, James Smith Conducting.In April his Psalm 42 (solo tenor) was broadcast on VaticanRadio's series on Sacred Music hosted by Aurelio Porfiri.Brian is a committed Christian and is known for his cheerful, professional approach. He is seeking opportunities to compose musicin any idiom or level of difficulty.
