Artist History A native of New Orleans La., Blyss honed his chops as a bassist, vocalist and engineer in the musically rich culture of the “Big Easy”. Blyss’ prowess as a multi-instrumentalist was achieved by many late night jam sessions either alone with a record or with any number of the local bands he played with. Blyss embraces and embodies many genres, most noticeably Soul, Funk and Rhythm and Blues but prefers to refer to his style as “Universal” as he his also influenced by the many of the mellow songwriters of the 70’s, the raw energy of artists like Stevie Ray Vaughn, the funk of Parliament and the jazz of artists like John Coltrane, Roy Ayers and Miles Davis. Shortly after moving to California, Blyss began to gain a reputation as a studio musician and vocalist working with many Bay Area R&B, Rock, Rap and Hip Hop artists. Frustrated with the session scene he set his sights on production and formed Southern Funk Productions and 6th Ward Entertainment which focused primarily on Hip Hop and R&B artists, samples of which can be heard on Mp3.com. Disenchanted with the lack of pure dedication he encountered, Blyss decided to record his own melodies and ideas which led to internet releases entitled Time in Chains and 360 Degrees, both available at www.mp3.com/Blyss. Blyss’ music may be the only glimpse inside this introspective person. His music is the story of his experiences in lyric and rhythm. Although he, like many artists', dislikes definition, his sound has been compared to Prince, D'angelo, Stevie Wonder, and Flea (as a bassist). The listener can't deny the influences that these artists' have had on Blyss, but his own creative style and personality defiantly come through loud and clear. "I have no desire to be or do the next 'big thing' I just want to continue to create music that I can share with others. They alone will decide what they hear. I only want to be true to myself and always create music.
