Press Reviews
OK, who was it that was wearing the button that said "Disco Is Dead" at Max's Kansas City in New York City circa 1977? Didn't we see you at Studio 54 whirling and twirling your best girl in a red Diane Von Furstenberg wrap dress under that mirror ball? Remember quaaludes and leisure suits? Next question. NEOGEN's "Sex On The Beach" and "Plastic Fantastic" are two numbers whose max-synthetic disco lines qualify this band as techno heirs to Kraftwerk. These songs don't have lyrics, bridges, or points of view on Global Warming, but they are eminently danceable, as noted by my right foot tapping right along. The artist known solely as Lucas TC also has another other project called LUCAS that's also worth exploring. Any 24-year old kid who cites McLuhan and kids around with late '80s toys like the Roland TB 303 (baseline generator) and the TR 808 (the sound of hip hop kick drums), can't be all bad. One final question: What the heck are we doing in the U.S.A. when we should be in Argentina tripping the Light Fantastic with these guys?. |
