Artist description
Michael is a singer songwriter and multimedia artist who mixes the two disciplines together to create a new kind of listening experience.
"Sacred Cow" is McDaeth's best mix yet of acoustic driven songs layered over found sounds, Hollywood cowboy movie soundtracks, mass media snippets and captured conversations. All provide a meaningful back drop for provocative songs that point to the end of the American dream.
In just over a year Michael has recorded 2 solo records all of which he wrote, performed, recorded and produced
McDaeth is the ultimate DIY artist: he also conceptualizes and creates his CD artwork as well as, creating videos and building this web site.
He is spending 2003 playing and promoting "Sacred Cow". His live performances feature broad brush guitar strokes and vocals that hook, threaten and provoke before inviting you in. Every so often he works in a harmonica that tumbles and twirls and disappears. What holds the whole thing together are lyrics that never fail to deliver an otherworldly sense of being anchored down to this place and time.

Gondwanaland Review 01-11-02
Lost and lonely, disenchanted, faithless and resigned — sad, small characters come alive in the songs of Michael McDaeth. He sets his players on a stark stage of gruff voice and understated acoustic guitar, an economy of expression akin to Bruce Springsteen's Nebraska. Tom Waits fans, too, will appreciate McDaeth's gift for finding the sublime in the banal: "I'm stuck at a stop light eating a deep fried sugar loaf ain't contemplating suicide/I'm empty inside but I'm all right" (from "Profitability"). A riverboat tour, recorded on micro cassette, plays in the background throughout Gondwanaland, providing eerie counterpoint to these quietly unsettling tales.
