Artist description
The diversity and range of Jenny Kavanaugh's music is evidenced by the numerous comparisons that have been made between her songs and those of many well-known artists. Fans have enthusiastically compared her to Bonnie Raitt (no doubt for her bluesier-rock numbers), Sheryl Crow, Anne Murray, Gillian Welch, and Tammy Wynette. The comparisons reveal the breadth Kavanaugh's song writing which incorporates rock, blues, classic country, bluegrass, folk, rockabilly, and gospel similar to many of the "fringe" country/folk artists one might find on the stage of Austin City Limits. It is, perhaps, little surprise that such artists such as Lyle Lovett, John Prine, Iris Dement, Emmylou Harris, Mary Chapin-Carpenter, and the Mavericks are amongst Jenny's greatest influencees. In addition to these, classic country artists including Jimmie Rodgers, Gene Autry and Patsy Cline, folk singers like Joni Mitchell and soul singers including Stevie Wonder and Aretha Franklin rank as some of Jenny's favorites. Jenny's music might be comfortably grouped with other underground country artists commonly referred to as 'alt' or 'insurgent' country. |
