    Artist description
This energetic three piece combine the pop sensibilities of GREEN DAY with the song writing and melody of bands like the FOO FIGHTERS and SMASHING PUMPKINS. Ranging from slow and sombre to fast and aggressive, they've picked up quite a following and have played with the likes of AFI and AT THE DRIVE-IN.

    Press Reviews
Rraining & falling - (review by Ian Cavell from Collective) There were a few rumblings from Leeds last year that this new band called Eighty Six were good. Several months on, a debut EP on Bombed Out and yeah, its pretty fucking good! 'raining and falling' consists of five wonderful tracks of emotional punk-rock with a definite Jawbreaker/early Get Up Kids feel to the songs. The lyrics are of a personal nature but really well written with the kind of clever word play that can be found in your average Alkaline Trio tune. I think 'Not As Warm As You' and 'Belloch' are the strongest tracks, especially the latter which out of nowhere hauls down this immense guitar riff and couples it alongside some harsher vocals with great effect. And I love the way they manage to blend a great Chasing Amy sample into the end of the song so that it does actually sound like the beautiful Joey Lauren Adams is contributing these neat vocals to see the song out. All in all, this is a really great EP by a great up and coming band. You'd be crazy to miss it. Rating: 8.5/10Bombed Out Raining and Falling CD (review from Geek Essay #5)Now this is one really, really cool record, I was expecting a decent EP, but for a first release 86 have totally outdone themselves. Considering they've only been around since last summer, the quality and maturity of tunes like 'Sorry About the Mess' and 'Belloch' is outstanding, I mean if you like your polished, tuneful, emotive Get Up Kids / Jawbreaker style rock, you can't go wrong with this. Everything about it is so good, put 86 on your "check 'em" list immediately, I love 'em.Raining and Falling EP (Review by Ben Myers from Kerrang!)KKKKFor the uninitiated, emo is the new strain of hardcore punk that is currently sweeping the world and corrupting our children with its articulated anger and songs about girls and things. Eighty SIx represent the UK wing of this new genre and, damn it, they are extremely good. For reference points just think of bands like the Get Up Kids or Spy Versus Spy - if you ain't heard of them, then think thoughtful punk rock with lots of soul searching choruses. What the hell, just get out there and go see them if you can.Raining & Falling recording promo featuring Fear of Drowning and Shortcut (review by Martin Brown from Francisco #1)Can you honestly utter a word of critism against EIGHTY SIX? Dr Graham is the bloody nicest bloke you could hope to correspond with, the rest of the band are great and the music is juts... well, incredible. From the painful, beautiful lyrics and the strained, frantic vocal style, to the brilliantly played melodic emo/punk. There are chugging, brutal chords, mixing with bouncy, poppy hooks and quiet, jangly instrumental interludes. OK, the demo was fuckin unbelievable, but orgasms started coursing through me when this thing started playing. The production is immense - there's no other word for it. The incredible "Fear of Drowning", laden with despair, ferocity and power, has been revitalised, as has "Shortcut". "Sorry About the Mess" harkens towards more soft and obvious influences, such as the anthemic "Not as Warm as You". However, the EPs closing track "Belloch" is a whirlwind of riffage, power and sublety. I've said it before, and you all think I'm lying, but I'll keep saying it: EIGHTY SIX are better than JAWBREAKER, as good as the GET UP KIDS, and frankly they shit all over most of their competition here. If this is their first EP, then imagining what they'll be like in a few years makes me gawp in antisipation. Gorgeous.
