Artist History
Joao Neves (flute, percussion) was born in Bahia, Brazil, and grew up in Rio de Janeiro and Santos.
He began his musical career playing with his high school marching band and jamming at beach parties. Joao came to the United States to attend Yale U., where he studied flute with Salvatore Amato. After moving to California he became active in the Bay Area’s Brazilian music scene. He is the mastermind behind three other MP3.com bands.
Peter Spitzer (tenor sax, percussion) has performed throughout the western United States, and played for many years with
Corpo Santo, a pioneering band in the Bay Area's Brazilian scene. He received an MA in Jazz Studies from San Jose State
University, and studied privately with Joe Henderson. Peter is the author of several internationally available music books,
including the Jazz Theory Handbook (Mel Bay Publications). He performs and teaches in the San Francisco Bay Area.
Jim Witzel (guitar) has recorded with Ernie Watts, John Pattitucci, and John Abercrombie. He has performed at the
Monterey Jazz Festival, and has toured in Europe and China. Jim teaches at San Francisco State University and Santa
Clara University, as well as privately. Jazz Times Magazine has called Jim "a greatly gifted young player whose musical
instincts are fresh, free, and flowing."
