Artist History
Bad Area was the brianchild of best friend cousins Brian Anderson andKirk Leonhardt. Since they were old enough to pick up guitars, they had been writing and performing music. Unfortunately they alwayslacked a full time serious percussionist to fill out the line up.During the Summer of 1987 they performed for the first time as "Der Stuka" with Joe Clarke on the mic and Aaron Bachelder on the kit.Personnell came and went including a brief stint with arudimentary drummer named Rusty Williams. In an attempt to fill the vocal void, Sonny Smith came online and, unlikemost Bad Area musicians, stayed around. Smith added a rawness andaggression to the bands lyrics and vocals.During the summer of 1991, the Bad Brothers were hooked up with local Motown favorites "The Seeing Eye Band." Their drummer, Jeramy B. Lamannocame online as the first permamanet drummer for Bad Area. Other SEB'sJason Peeler and Chris Cates were on hand to help out when the Bad Brothers needed. Peeler even filled in at a certain party when Lamanno was out of town. Bad Area was the talk of Motown. The summer of 1991 ended with the realization of Bad Area's first recording "No More Happy Songs."The fall of 1991 saw Brian heading off to college. Bad Area was in demand,so the Bad Brothers hired on Gene Cooke to play when Anderson was not available. Bad Area opened and headlined many shows at the now defunct "Rakks" of Motown. During the spring of 1992 Anderson, Leonhardt, and Lamanno began laying down tracks for Bad Area's second recording. The new record, "Day", was not completely mixed until the fall of 1992. This heralded the end of the band.During the remainder of 1992 and 1993, Bad Area played sparsely. The bandalmost completely fell apart due to personality differences. Personal crises and projects took precedence over practicing and recording. Four mentionalble performances occurred during this time: 1) The Skate Park Summer 1992 Lincolnton, NC 2) The redneck party, July 4, 1992 Raleigh, NC 3) Kappa Sigma Fraternity NCSU Raleigh, NC 4) Lee Dormitory NCSU Raleigh, NCIn attempting to stage a comeback show at NCSU, Bad Area called it quits permanently due to lack of committment from band members. |
