Artist History
In the year 1997, Evan (guitar/vox) and Ron (drums) were playing in their former band at a community music festival, Rockfest. At this event the two met their destined fellow bandmate and dogg, Sam (bass/vox). After chatting a bit, the trio decided to get together and jam. Little did we know that this was going to be the first 3 Monkeys Named BOB rehearsal. There was chemistry in the air while playing, and the trio knew that they had landed on something big. Ron and Evan's former band was on its way down due to conflicts with the bass player, the newly formed trio still nameless gathered together some original material and some covers and did some recording on a four track in Ron's basement, the first 3 Monkeys demo which included "Better Left Unsaid," and a NOFX cover, "Love Story." About a month later in may of 1997. The trio landed their first show at a battle of the Bands at The Backdoor in Nyack, New York. While deciding on a title to call our new project that we had on our hands, names that came up included MUB, The Beezus clan, and others. However, if you're wondering how we got our name, which many people do and to avoid the question of "Why are you guys called 3 Monkeys Named Bob when there are five of you?" Well here it goes....Sam, our beloved bass player, has a younger brother who has 3 monkey puppets all named bob. Hence, we came up with the name, 3 Monkeys Named BOB as sort of a tribute. It's a little weird and crazy I guess....but hey....so are we. After the battle of the bands, which sadly didn't go too smoothly, however I won't get into that,We took a break over the summer while Sam attended Interlochen arts camp. When Sam returned, we submitted a tape to play at Rockfest, the concert which had brought 3 Monkeys Named BOB together only a year prior. Our demo was chosen and we played. Joined by Shaia Hoffman on guitar and Erica Lesser on vocals, 3 Monkeys Named was able to rock out at our first big show. After that show, Shaia and Erica went their own way. However, 3 Monkeys Named BOB continued to venture on. Joining up with the local Punk scene as well as the nearby Jersey scene, and a stream of shows followed around the Rockland County and northern Jersey area. However, never play at Obsessions In Randolph, NJ. The place blows and they try to majorly screw every band over that plays there. Just some of my own advice. Moving right along, 3 Monkeys Named BOB, although primarily a three piece, picked up lead singer Jen Campbell for a little while. A great stage performer and lyricist, due to.......well I don't know exactly. It just didn't work right. However, Adam Schneider and Joe Tan soon joined up on trombone and Saxophone, giving 3 Monkeys a more Ska feel and allowing them to expand their musical interests. Adam and Joe would become full fledged monkeys, adding their horn might to the punk/ska quintet. They exemplify the true meaning of bad ass. However, Adam, Sam, Evan, Dan, and Joe go to college. fuck school. we all hate it. Although a little more difficult, the band plays as much as possible on school breaks and during the year as well. 3 Monkeys has also expanded their playing field to Ithaca, New York and New York City. So keep an eye out for us and don't be afraid to drop in and say hello or fuck you or something like that.. |
