Artist History
Tangleroot, is a band with a rock-based sound that is strong on melodies, lyrics, and harmonies. Together since March of 1995, they have been honing their skills by playing around the Ottawa area and recording at Sound of One Hand Studios. As musicians and songwriters, they have embraced a diversity of styles (much as Fleetwood Mac, Crosby Stills Nash and Young, and the Beatles did) with an aim to creating their own unique sound. The 4 songwriters represent differing views from both a musical and lyrical perspective relating to each other under the common Tangleroot banner. Their first self-titled CD, released in September of 1999, was recorded over a year and a half. Originally intended to be an EP, it grew to a 9-song CD. It was seen as a prelude to a full CD. Two singles were issued from that CD: a cover of Stephen Stills’ “Helplessly Hoping” and an original, “Promise”. The latter song also resulted in a video, which was featured on Much Music. In December of 2000, the band released their second CD entitled “In Pieces”. This was their first truly national release intended to target markets across Canada through the Edmonton-based Spirit River Distribution with whom they had signed a national distribution deal. In it for the long haul, Tangleroot is excited about continuing to pursue recording and touring. Plans for a tour are being made for early summer. With their experience performing, and the tightness of the band as a musical team, they feel confident that now is their time. |

Press Reviews
Tangleroot is an up and coming band that is unique in Canada. This rock and roll band presents a different face with its mix of female and male performers. It is nice to see a band of this composition, especially when it makes their sound that much different. -Joe Pavia, Program Manager, CENTRAL CANADA EXHIBITION ASSOCIATIONThis local alternative rock group performed for two hours at an outdoor street concert on June 10th, 1997. The audience mainly consisted of teenagers and young adults who warmly welcomed and appreciated the fine and energetic performance given by Tangleroot. This talented group of musicians was a wonderful addition to our performance line-up. The members of Tangleroot are professional in every respect and their fine lyrical and musical abilities appear to be very promising. -Diane Chevrier, Director General, City of AylmerTheir music is a breath of fresh air within the genre of pop-rock. The Hendersons don't limit themselves to one type of sound, just as they don't limit the roles they play in the band. Beki could be the lead singer for one song, while Mark could lead the next. Each band member has written songs, and whoever writes the song, sings the leading role. The common thread were the voices and lyrics that always took front stage. -Anna-Marie Weiler, The Aylmer Bulletin and West-Quebec Post |
