Artist History WHO IS NAKED ALBERT?naked albert, a.k.a. Albert Vasquez, is the former drummer and lead vocalist of Clambone Records recording artists Smokehouse Prophets, a N.Y.C. based alternative funk act. While with this project, Albert had the good fortune to play in numerous large and small venues with an eclectic collection of famous acts, such as P-Funk with George Clinton, B.B King, Blondie, Barenaked Ladies, Little Feat, the Mighty Mighty Bosstones, Dr.John, Soul Asylum, Cherry Poppin’ Daddies, Toni Trishka, K’s Choice, Scott Weiland, “Gatemouth” Brown, Echo and the Bunnymen, Creed, Fastball, Harvey Danger, and the Foo Fighters, amongst others. During the groups five years of touring and recording, Albert’s aggressive funk rhythms, unique vocal stylings, and off-beat lyrical approach helped garner both the band and himself widespread critical acclaim and a large following; Smokehouse Prophets was voted as one of the nation’s top unsigned bands in 1997 by Discmakers U.S.A. In late 1999, Albert decided to take it to the stage solo, guitar in hand, metaphorically naked, with all new material, dedicated to bringing his unique blend of passion and rhythm to the masses in a big way. Since then, he has been performing around the northeastern United States, as well as the United Kingdom, garnering tremendous critical acclaim (see review sheet.) naked albert has recently reached endorsement/equipment agreements with Seagull Guitars, L.R. Baggs Guitar Electronics, and Danelectro Guitars. naked albert will also be featured in a new book about the world’s best unsigned/underplayed talent, penned by Chris 'K' Kresge and Clint Gaige. This new book, titled " The Long Road..the Best Music You've Never Heard", will be released later this year by Quiet Storm Publishing, and will be available nationwide.naked albert has been chosen from hundreds of acts to perform this June at the Songwriter's Hall of Fame, an event hosted by the National Association of Popular Music/National Song Writers' Guild.
