Artist description
Ten Cents a Dance is the biggest, phatest, funkiest band to ever rise out of the Portage Lakes. Decked head to toe in Gangster Hats, Pinstripe Suits, and Wingtip Shoes, these boys know how to put on a show. Catchy hooks are driven by the 5 piece horn section producing a wall of sound, the boys in the Rythym Section know how to hold down a groove like no other, while Mr. Brandon Miller glues it together with his soaring vocals. Seamlessly blending Jump Swing, Latin, Funk, and Rock, these boys keep the dance floor moving all night long and demand a crowd where-ever they play. |

Artist History
Ten Cents a Dance was formed by Derek "Big D" Kirschner in early 1998 as "The Unmentionables". This name was soon dropped as it sounded too much like underwear. They re-surfaced in 1999 as a 6 piece instrumental unit playing local jazz concerts and parties that summer. Fall of 1999 brought the adition of a singer (Brandon Miller) and a rythem guitarist. Some people were fired. Some people went to college. Horn players were replaced. This 9 piece version dubbed itself "Ten Cents A Dance" and started becoming what they are today. Ten Cents played various parties and weddings through the summer of 2000, honing its live act and preparing for the next stage. Fall 2000: Ten Cents adds a Lead Guitarist and the band is now complete. Hidden in their rehersal hall they've developed and refined their sound, built a catalogue of origional material, began recording, and prepared for the next step. 2001: Ten Cents will hit the Scene, Devastating Clubs with the funkiest grooves and hardest swing you've ever heard. |
