Artist History
After an extended hiatus the artist that Vibe magazine called in their July 2000 issue a “brown-magic woman (who) brought catchy hooks to dancepop music” unleashes her new jam “the Journey” to the world wide web. Winner of UK’s Smash Hits best pop act, she released her first Album “Martika” at 18, selling over 3 million copies worldwide. “Toy Soldiers” reached #1 on the charts and a worldwide tour followed. In addition the album spawned three International top 40 hits “More Than you Know”, “I Feel the Earth Move” and “Water”. In the summer of 1991 her first single “Love… Thy Will Be Done” from her R&B flavored sophomore effort “Martika’s Kitchen” was released. It reached #10 in the US, and #1 on international pop charts. After a breathtaking appearance in 92’s Expo Sevilla in front of 100.000 fans and a worldwide TV audience, she walked off the stage and started a new journey. “I needed time to live my life… up to that point I had been performing non-stop for ten years.” Martika's evolution metamorphoses into a mix of grooves with a rock-disco spirit and funk attitude, it’s a colorful collage of classic deep house, funk, electro, hip-hop, r&b and soul, all done with a Cuban wink to the Tropicana days and a serious nod to the new millennium.
