    Artist History
Doc Miller started playing music at age 3 and by his late teens had learned most styles of jazz on most instruments. He later spent 6 years as a jazz artist in Europe then 7 years as a TV personality and performer in Eastern countries. Miller plays all styles of jazz and Eastern music of 12 world traditions on some 100 instruments. Miller’s PhD work on Persian music resulted in the book Music and Song in Persia published by Curzon Press in London. But even before his second trip to the Middle East on a Fulbright Scholarship, Miller was working on Eastern music and finding ways to bring metaphysical and highly developed Eastern concepts into modal jazz. Miller’s LP album Oriental Jazz released in the late 60s and the three consecutive years he won composer and other trophies at Intercollegiate Jazz Festivals indicate that he was one of the first to bring Eastern musical ideas to jazz. As well as correctly representing traditional jazz styles, Miller performs and draws on authentic Eastern musical forms from Persia, India, Afghanistan, Asia, Indonesia and other world traditions. His CDs include: Etruscan Impressions, Pure New Orleans Jazz, Saints of Two Cities, Chicago Jazz, Jazz Piano, L.A. Blues & SwingnJive, Multi-instrumental Mania, Eastern Arts Performance Highlights and Earthtones World Inspired Creations plus 7 LPs and 20 tapes.
