Press Reviews
Lashing out in a fury of black metal know-how, Los Angeles act Sanctus Makes their mark with a stunning debut disc. Haunting at times, the black metal assault (though closely fitted with death metal qualities) is eerily powerful, as the band allow themselves to delve deep into the mystical realm of black metal, but at the same time aim high for musicianship. The mixture of both shine on numbers such as "If We Fall," "Odyssey" and "Tired of the Pain." As well, the atmosphere of Sanctus' Aeon Sky really draw the listener in, bowling us over with the powerful onslaught of ideas. Is this the best major label debut of 2000? It'll be close between this and The Project Hate. -UNRESTRAINED! reviewed by A. Bromley (Issue 13; September, 2000) |
