    Artist description
    Born in Karnatak, India in a musical family. Shoba was inspired and initiated to music by her mother the late Mrs. Kamal Joshi who herself had a great passion for music and was a singer. Initially trained by her mother and groomed by different gurus like Pt. Agashe Buva in Pune and Mrs. Manik Varma, Dr. Prabha Atre, Pt. Yashwant B. Joshi, Niwruttibuva and Sarnaik in classical music. She took further training in various forms of Indian music, such as Ghazals, Bhajans and light music. Her gurus were Ghazal Maestro Mehdi Hasan, Mahesh Chandra, Yashwant Deo and Jananwatve. From early on in her career, Shoba has received recognition for her achievements including the Surmani award by Sursingar which is a prestigious award in Indian music. After her first public concert at the age of 15 in Pune, she also participated in the prestigious Sawai Gangharva music festival, Calcutta conference and S.G.S. Sabha conference to name a few. Having established a solid foundation in classical music, Shoba has also honed her talents in several lighter forms of Indian music. Her renditions in these genres have gained her worldwide recognition and popularity, having performed over 1000 concerts worldwide and she continues to delight audiences in India and around the world. Her considerable musical talents and melodic voice have also earned her recognition as a playback singer to many films. Having worked under well known music directors as Jaydevjee and Laxmikant Pyarelal, C. Ramchandra and others. To date she has recorded over 55 solo albums in all different categories of music.

    PROFILE -- Shoba Joshi, is the most accomplished, versatile and talented singer of today. She is among very few of those, who have a talent to sing many forms and faculties of Music, such a Classical, Ghazal, Geet, Bhajan and also film songs, with equal ease and knowledge. Endowed with a mellifluous and sonorous voice, she, further has enriched and developed her voice with the rigorous and well observed training from various eminent ' Gurus ', with the constant inspiration and support from her mother, late Mrs. Kamal Joshi, and with her own single minded dedication and practice. Initially trained by her mother, Shoba, further was groomed by Pt. D.K. Agashe, from Pune for more than 12 years and then by well known singers like , late Mrs. Manik Varma, Dr, Prabha Atre and Pt. Y. B. Joshi from Mumbai. While doing her diploma in music, she also learned under late pt. Niwruttibua Sarnaik , in Bombay University. Further she also learned the other forms of music, along with her classical training. She learned Ghazals, initially under Mahesh Chandra from Mumbai and then with none other than, Ghazal Maestro, Mehdi Hasan. She also learned Semi-classical forms like Thumri, Dadra, Hori etc. In light music, her Gurus are very eminent singers and composers of Maharashtra, Pt. Yashwant Dev and Gajanan Watwe. As a playback singer, she was fortunate to learn the skill and technique of film singing, with legendary music directors C. Ramchandra and Jaydevjee. She is the " TOP " grade artist of All India Radio and TV. Besides her musical background, she has Honors in Psychology from Pune University and Masters in Music form S.N.D.T. University of Bombay. She also has diploma in music from the University of Bombay. -- HOW IT STARTED? -- Shoba believes that her voice is a very precious gift from ' God '. But this God given talent was first recognized by her mother, when Shoba was just two and half year old. Her mother, herself had learned classical and light music and had the great love and passion for music. At the age of three, Shoba sang the songs taught by her mother and popular songs from the films and from the Radio. This initiated Shoba's mother to make her mind to put Shoba to Music Training. But she was waiting for Shoba to grow little more. Meanwhile, at the age of five, Shoba learned Katthak Dance for two years and finally at the age of seven, Shoba started learning music from Pt.D.K. Agashe in Pune. Along with her school and college studies, she continued with her musical training with full dedication and continues to learn till today. From her early age, Shoba showed signs of becoming a fine singer and at the tender age of 15, Shoba gave her first classical concert in Pune. She won prizes, awards and trophies in every school, college, university and private competitions. Further she started performing as an upcoming singer with local groups and won audiences' hearts with her melodious and flawless singing and this led Shoba to enter the " WORLD OF PERFORMING ”. -- PERFORMANCES -- Started performing from the age of 15, Shoba has given more than 1200 concerts in classical, ghazal, bhajan, light music and film music. Her renditions in these genres, have gained her recognition and popularity, not only in India but all over the world. She has performed in all major and small cities of India and the list of countries abroad, where she performs frequently, is enormous. They are USA, UK, Canada, Japan, Russia, Tatarstan, France, Switzerland, Netherland, Norway, Singapore, Hongkong, South Africa, Kenya and other European countries. She has performed in more than 25 cities of USA and Canada. Her audience is all over the world and admire her versatility. She has also performed in prestigious music conferences in India, such as, Sawai Gandharva Sangeet Mahotsav in Pune, Calcutta Conference, S.G.S. Sabha in Madras and many more.

MEMORABLE EVENTS AND VENUES -- Shoba has a privilege to perform in the most prestigious halls of the world. She is the first Indian vocalist to perform in prestigious " Tchaykovasky" hall of Moscow in Russia. She has also performed in Royal Albert Hall and Wembley Conference Hall in UK and Queen Elizabeth Hall in Canada. She has an honor of performing thrice for Canada Day and Asian Day in Toronto at CNA stadium and at Canada's Wonderland for more than 30,000 crowd. She was fortunate, to be invited to sing for India's 50th Independence Celebration on 15th August 1997 in Washington D.C. and the chief guest was the first lady, Mrs. Hillary Clinton. In Tatarstan, she is the first Indian vocalist to perform in 1999. The wife of the President and the vice President were overwhelmed by Shoba's performance and sat through out the 3 hour concert and gave standing ovation.
