Artist History
September is considered to be a transitionary month each year, as Summer bids a fond farewell and evacuates for Fall's brief tenure, adjusting everyone to the shorter days and colder air that looms on the horizon. September brings about a change in environment and a change in mind, yet in 2000, the musical climate also began to change. This is the time of year that Blind Hate Experiment was born unto the New Jersey independent scene. This is when a mere dream in four young men's minds became a very tangible reality.
Blind Hate Experiment began simply enough when vocalist Eric Portalatin and bassist Mike Quindlen realized their destiny. They knew they weren't meant to lead routine lives restricted by confined work environments. These men understood that they had more to offer this world then serving food or laboring in the local factories. In their minds, music was the only feasible future they had, and they could not sit idly by and allow their dream to fade away, becoming a regret. Portalatin had been performing in various musicals since a young age; he clearly had the vocal presence to sing on a larger platform, at the helm of a new musical entity removed from the scripted entertainment of musicals and plays. Quindlen had been learning by ear, nurturing an ingrained knowledge of bass undertones and was ready to go a step further then jamming in his bedroom. Thus these schoolmates put their heads together, and the hard rock/metal hybrid Blind Hate Experiment began to take root. The group was nearing completion yet the band atmosphere was slowly beginning to turn sour. Despite these differences, the band kept their heads held high, striving for the goal they had envisioned: a band that was more then just the sum of it's parts.
After careful planning and many nights listening to a steady supply of Pantera, Tool and Jimi Hendrix, the group parted ways with their original drummer and welcomed percussionist (and fellow classmate) Sean Christiansen into the fold, solidifying the backbone of the band. Dean Nugent became friends with Quindlen at a local concert, and this friendship quickly led to his placement as the fledgling band's manager. Nugent was respected in metal circles due to his involvement in recording groups such as System of a Down & Slipknot in the live environment, and his experience lent itself perfectly to helping the band expand their vision locally. Unfortunate circumstances found the band part ways with their original guitarist, which made securing a long-term replacement troublesome, but by August 2002 perseverance prevailed. Nugent saw Blind Hate Experiment's predicament, and realized that time necessitated a change, as he laid down his managerial duties and became an integral cornerstone of Blind Hate Experiment as their rhythm guitarist. The group's new manager introduced the guys to John Farley, who would quickly assume the role of lead guitar, and thus the familial bond of brotherhood was found with these like-minded musicians. With the line-up complete and the band finally feeling the innate unity amongst one another, Blind Hate Experiment were ready to take on the world. These five musicians aren't rock stars, they view themselves as everyday men trying to provide a disillusioned society an outlet to share and alleviate common stresses. They know that blood is thicker then water, and with their hearts dedicated to the same passionate cause, Blind Hate Experiment have stepped forth with renewed determination, and are ready to cause a commotion.
The group's name itself refers to a theory that our society is in itself an experiment to see what happens when people of different paths in life are put together, and the animosity and jealousy which results. Is it a pessimistic outlook on today's society? Perhaps, but an all too realistic reality, and it provides a glimpse at how these musicians think and what they observed in their lives up until this point. Their music also conveys this emotion and often overwhelming negativity that influences our lives. Tackling heavy subject matter such as self-hate, anxiety and depression, Blind Hate Experiment seek to find some meaning to the dark underbelly of our society. Their music portrays dark realms of thought while consistently offering inspiring and hopeful solutions, striving to overcome the weight of reality and allow listeners an opportunity to unleash their emotional baggage alongside Blind Hate Experiment.
The band's live show is where these men shine. With their accessible concepts and intense performance, Blind Hate Experiment offers fans a chance to let go of their daily struggles, if just for one night, and this release is a cathartic affair for everyone involved. You're unlikely to find a sou leaving the venue each night without being drenched in sweat and a smile on their face. In this way, Blind Hate Experiment have already begun inspiring change, as they connect with their listeners, and form a bond that speaks to every single person in the room. Portalatin is frequently found amidst the crowd, singing with conviction around the fans, flourishing from the energy surrounding him. The group's close-knit relationship allows each musician to feed off his brethren on stage, driving each song to new heights, transforming every performance into an evening of unforgettable intensity. Everyone has problems that stand in their way, yet hate solves nothing, only unity will invoke change. The close friendship that is observed in these five men as they pour their heart and soul into their music every time they take the stage is undeniable. In front of throngs of energized fans, these men are brothers in arms, rifling through uplifting songs of musical aggression fueled by past experiences.
Over the past year, Blind Hate Experiment have amassed a cult following in the New York/New Jersey area performing with such reputable acts as Anthrax, Overkill, Fear Factory, Cold, Nonpoint and Disturbed. The group have not allowed a scene that is out to protect itself to stop them, and stand in stark contrast to their peers in the local music community by continuously providing opportunities for other young bands looking to pursue their dream. Their message may be harsh in it's delivery, but it's intent is heartfelt and sincere. These men function as one unit, no one man is of higher importance in this collective. Blind Hate Experiment aren't out to revolutionize the music industry, they are merely trying to inspire change in the lives they come in contact with, and in the lives of every listener that has the chance to hear their music.

"A unique vocal style and a hard edge have given Blind Hate
Experiment massive potential in our hard music scene. I
strongly suggest you jump on this band." -Blistering.com
This next quote is from Blind Hate Experiment... it's a long quote... but when you get a local band that can write lyrics like this... fucking A ill post em... These guys are fucking amazing, if you haven't heard em yet... you may want to start now... - John from Sicmaggot.net
Blind Hate Experiment is another story. With vocals that are both melodic and heavy, and a really rythmic guitar section, they brought back attention from members of the crowd that had gone in search of pizza. They have a really loyal fan base, and its obvious why after seeing them live. The guitarist rips out solos and the singer has an incredible voice, creating a good blend of rock and metal. -Pucknatiom.com
