You cannot become ‘truly’ great without it.”I suppose it was coming from an Irish family, that Simon Sloan at the young age of 6 learnt the accordion of all things. Next was the harmonica, and this branched out to many other instruments as he got older, and by the time he finished his computing degree at 21, he had been into keyboards for a couple of years, already experimenting with echo chambers and other things. You have to know him to realise his flair for the creative, and his unrestrained ness in style. “If it’s right, it’s right – not because someone else is doing it.”After his degree, he soon went fulltime into his arts, including painting and writing, going under the name “Seloni”. During this time, he also took up the guitar, sax, and percussion, having a variety of drums around his home, “to get it going”. The more instruments he learnt, the quicker he could learn something else. His focus turned more to music since “You’re dancing right from the first beat.”It was the perfect time for the technology leap in computers, something he has always been adept at, and their cost effectiveness and capacity only recently has enabled him to make “the music that no-one else is making.” His debut album he has brought out here, “ESSENCE” is probably overdue, however the music on here could well be from the future. Never wanting too much has never compromised his style. Never wanting to walk around in other people’s old shoes, his philosophies of life are reflected in the freedom and depth of the music. “New shoes are everywhere” he grins.
