Artist History
Laura Dreyer and Mysterious Encounter is a highly original mixture of Brazilian rhythms and textures combined with the exciting spontaneiety of jazz improvisation and catchy lyrical melodies. Featuring the compositions of saxophonist/flutist Laura Dreyer, as well as Brazilian jazz standards, the band's infectious grooves and sensuous harmonies will appeal to audiences on many different levels. Laura Dreyer and "Mysterious Encounter" have performed at the Syracuse Jazz Festival, the Mary Lou Williams Wom en in Jazz Festival at the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts (Washington DC), and many of New York City's top clubs including Birdland, Sete MOMA, Le Bar Bat, The Fifth House Performance Space, Caviarteria, El Taller Latino Americano, La Belle Epoque, Zanzibar, Europa Cafe, and many more. The core ensemble is a quartet consisting of saxophone/flute, piano, bass and drums, however the group expands to include vocals, guitar, and percussion, accomodating the needs of various performance situations.
