Artist History
Ever wish the history of country music took a different turn, say, twenty-five years ago? The Wichita Shut-Ins are here to do something about that.
Kelly Kessler helped frontload the Chicago country music revival during her stint with the Texas Rubies, and stoked the flames with her Honky Tonk Living Room series at the Hideout.
Lawrence Peters comes out of the same Lawrence, Kansas music scene that spawned Split Lip Rayfield and BR-549. Equally at home with Stanley-style bluegrass and Ray Price crooners, Peters has a honeyed baritone that recalls the glory days of country. Combine a thorough knowledge of the classics, top-drawer original tunes, tight harmonies and free-ranging instrumentation (washboard, sax, saw, trumpet, oboe, dobro, fiddle) and you get the Wichita Shut-Ins:
a fresh take on what has always mattered about country music.
