Artist History
John De Young has been writing music, recording and performing live for nearly all his life. At 2 1/2 years old, when his mother took him with his two older sisters to a recording studio to make a demo, he was able to sing perfect harmonies. Strongly influenced by the folk and rock bands of the '60's, John began writing. "The Americans", "The Midnight Snack", "Poppy" and "The Dots" are just a few of the numerous rock groups that John has performed with throughout his career. He has played a variety of styles of music in a variety of venues from small intimate clubs to concert stages. "The Dots" was an '80's new wave rock group in which John De Young was a writer, singer, guitar and keyboard player. Their many performances included popular L.A. clubs such as Madam Wongs, FM Station and the Troubadour and opening for John Hyatt and "Missing Persons" at the Santa Barbara Bowl. Shortly after producing their second album, "The Dots" broke up. John continued writing and recording his music. After leaving one band and then another because they chose to emphasize cover tunes, John began to focus solely on original material. Through '96 and '97, John De Young shared concert stages with the likes of Maria McKee, Marc Cohn and Arlo Guthrie. In 1997, John De Young Completed his first solo album, "Envisage", which is a beautifully produced collection of rock, pop and alternative songs of life, love, challenge and happiness. In January, 1999, John re-connected with an old friend, Chris Smith. They bagan recording more of John's songs and soon "Naked Hearts" was formed.
