Artist History
Philip Watts (Breech, Jak Daws, Sweet and Low) decided in the spring of 2000 to demo some material he had been working on the year before. What started out as a demo project quickly grew into a full time obsession and the EP "Curio" was born. He asked friends Alan Linker (Emily Richards, Sugar Mama, Twilight Singers) to help out on drums. He had met Al the year before in a "state sponsored community service" program. Philip met Martin Klingman on tour in 1999 when both were playing for other bands. Philip was blown away by Martin's ability to play a half dozen instruments or more very competently. Martin was asked to lend his considerable talents on bass, an instrument that he had until then only played on his own recordings. Local artist, scenester and provocateaur David Reiss was plied to take guitar duties. Philip met David at an art opening in west LA and thought that David was one of the more interesting (albeit strange) characters he had ever met. Having just graduated from art school, David was eager to strike out in a new direction and Cobra Libre was just the kind of experimental environment he needed. They played their first show in October of 2000 and are currently headlining very regularly in and around LA and Orange County. |
