Press Reviews
"We decided, however, to leave “only if the next band is a screamer.” And so
Chronicbreaker unassumingly took the stage, said a quick hello,
and then let it rip. I can honestly say that this Kenora, Ontario
three-peice has quickly become one of my favourite bands. They’re
like Moneen on speed. I guess I’d classify them as “post punk”,
but I’m not very good at defining genres. Chronicbreaker combines
crazy time signatures and technical guitar riffs with strong melodies
and interesting lyrics. You won’t necessarily “get it” upon first
listen, but these guys have got a great sound. They can stretch
the boundaries of the conventional rock song structure to the breaking
point, only to return to a simple and melodic verse or chorus.
The often frenetic nature of the songs gives the band an advantage
that most lack: the element of surprise. There is no way to predict
what the songs will do. After their excellent live show (which
included an action-packed tale about an attempted purchase of a
Slayer CD at Futureshop), Brandon picked up their split CD (with
Andre’s Last Chance of Spawner Records), and to our delight they’ve
got a live show that translates well onto disc. The four songs
on the CD are simultaneously challenging and enjoyable for the listener."
