Artist description
Abysmal Fall have already proven themselves worthy additions to the metal underground with the killer self- release of "Spit in the Face of Christ." After 3 years of blasphemous aural assault, Abysmal Fall still refuse to be defined or restricted by classification in any one genre of music. Blending elements of death, black, grindcore, and more subtle musical styles such as classical and even jazz, this deadly NY threesome explores areas of metal most bands don't even have the balls to touch! |

Artist History
Abysmal Fall was formed in the Spring of 1998 by Mourn (lead guitar), Lord Iscariot (drums/vocals) and Wraith (rhythm guitar). Soon after forming, Wraith quit due to family obligations and to pursue other interests. The remaining members, Mourn and Lord Iscariot, continued to write material while searching for a second guitarist and/or bassist. Eventually, in the late summer of 1998, they found a bassist in the form of Krist. With the line-up now complete, Abysmal Fall continued to write songs and played some shows, the very first of which was on October 31, 1998; a show which resulted in Abysmal Fall being banned from the first of many local venues. Soon after, on January 2nd and 3rd, Abysmal Fall entered a small local studio to record their debut 5-song mini-CD; appropriately titled "Spit in the Face of Christ". This CD was later remastered at GFI studios to attain the thick, punishing sound that is one of Abysmal Fall's trademarks. The band spent the next few months distributing hundreds of tapes and CDs throughout the underground, in the process accomplishing an impressive feat by being embraced by nearly all those who listened, whether they were fans of death, black, speed, old-school or grind metal. The diverse blending of styles combined with professional sound quality apparently made it's mark in a metal scene cluttered with Cannibal Clones and Burzum wannabes. Despite budget constraints which kept circulation relatively low, the release was well-received by virtually all who heard it regardless of their taste in extreme metal. Abysmal Fall spent the period from March 1999 to December 1999 writing new songs and playing local shows. The live shows, which include many interesting elements such as Bible burning, cross desecrating, fire breathing, worm spewing and various dismembered animals both disgusted local audiences and led to Abysmal Fall being banned from almost all local venues. On January 9th, 2000 the band recorded "Borne Against", a 6 song mini-CD, at GFI studios. This CD promises to be even stronger than the first with even better sound quality and a more widely evident blend of metal genres. In terms of musical style, Abysmal Fall is a unique blend of black and death metal that combines the sheer brutality of death metal bands such as Suffocation with the intense harshness of black metal such as Marduk. Throw in an aggressive dual vocal attack, some acoustic interludes, professional sound quality that allows every subtle nuance to be heard and some extremely blasphemous, hate-filled anti-Christian lyrics and you have Abysmal Fall…a unique, ear-shredding, throat tearing, god-killing slab of black/death that sets a new standard for underground metal bands. |
