Artist History
“Rise From The Ash”, much like the mythical Phoenix, this thunderous East Coast Hardcore band rose from the ashes of three of the Baltimore and Washington DC area’s most brutal bands in the late 1990’s; Next Step Up, Undermind, and Once Even. Originally formed as a side project by Jason Taylor (guitar) and Damon "Boo" Dixon (bass), the band took on a life of its own once the members rounded out the lineup with the edition of JR Glass, front man of the Baltimore band Next Step Up, on vocals. After the departure of their original drummer and second guitar player, the band added ex-Darkest Hour drummer Matt Maben and ex-Day of Mourning guitarist Lord Dom to the line-up. The band members have a combined total of 50 years of experience in the underground music scene. To date, the band has produced 3 CDs, appeared on several underground compilations, and played over 150 live shows with National Artists in some of the East Coast’s best-known clubs. Wake Up Cold transformed from its humble beginnings into a musical juggernaut hell-bent on producing a hybrid of East Coast hardcore and metal that appeals to a wide range of listeners while staying true to its roots in the underground scene.
“A Way Of Life” describes the band’s attitude towards their music. It isn’t all about making money or gaining fame for this five-piece East Coast band it’s about making heavy music and, most importantly, having a good time doing it. It’s about producing heavy music that conveys a message about the world we live in and the never-ending struggle of individuals to carve out a name for themselves in this modern-day world of strife. Wake Up Cold’s live performances are about the band interacting with the audience to create an interactive experience that transcends that of a mere concert. The energy between the band and the audience feeds upon itself consuming all in a firestorm of heavy music and flailing limbs.
Musically, the band has been likened to Hatebreed, Slayer, Sick of it All, and Biohazard. Blazing guitar riffs mix with pounding bass, intricate drumming, and brutal vocals to create a hybrid style that ranges from blazing metal fury to catchy underground sing-along anthems.
The band has had the distinct pleasure to share the stage with several of today’s most popular underground artists including: Hatebreed, Soul Brains, Agnostic Front, Earth Crisis, All Out War, Skinless, Dying Fetus, Suicidal Tendencies, Dropkick Murphy’s, Murphy’s Law, Madball, Sick of it All, H20, and many, many more.
Wake Up Cold’s discography includes: The debut EP "Rise From The Ash" (Gain Ground Records), the "Every Day" EP (SIH Records), and most recently the full length album “Deliver Me From Evil” on DFF Records in the USA, Inner Rage Records in Europe, and on Out Ta Bomb Records in Japan. Also, the band has a split 7” record on SIH Records with the Japanese band Beyond Hate and has appeared on several underground compilations including "Hardcore 2000" (Century Media), "Hardcore Ball 5" (Straight Up), "East Coast Assault 3" (Chord Records), and Menace II Society (Sadistic Records). Press Reviews
"Wake Up Cold draws in all comers with its penultimate set, mixing up hardcore shout-along choruses, grinding breaks, and hyperspeed assaults while frontperson JR wins brownie points by dedicating every single song to somebody (even the one he sings to "you fucking whore"). By the final tune, people are literally climbing over each other to share his mic." - Lee Gardner Baltimore City Paper"An incredible mix of powerful guitar riffs, pounding bass, and driving beats combined with some of the most brutal, gut-wrenching, vocals in the underground scene today. Similar in style to Hatebreed and All Out War, Wake Up Cold is destined to become a powerhouse in the brutal music world. With their "Rise From The Ash" debut, Wake Up Cold delivers the goods like a ton of molten lead." ***** - Jared Alseice Metal Maniac |
