Like the Jesus and Mary Chain of Darklands, daydream's (note - we used to be called daydream) delicate, melodic,guitar-heavy numbers develop in intensity and volume until the inexorabledistortion rushes in. Other moments reveal a more low-key sound, withprominent acoustic guitars and chord progressions from the "Sweet Jane"/NeilYoung school of songwriting.Rather touching singer-songwriter fare from a solo artist. The vocals arecolored with a cavernous reverb, giving the recordings a distant,introspective tone.In a blur (no pun intended) of mop tops and Manchester United scarves,Casual Man (note-we also used to be called casual man) etch out Oasis inspired Brit Pop for anglophiles and popophilesalike. Catchy and hooky, like good Brit Pop should beIts raining again and a dreamy lad strums his acoustic guitar and sings us anice sad song. Simple but with some hints that the performer has a good earfor pop.Droning, moody pop songs, yearning emotions floating through a thick haze ofreverb and distortion. Unforced and sweet. |
