Press Reviews
It's taken two years for The Resistors to migrate East to the Beach, but the Aynor boys in the band aren't complaining. After playing gigs in rural Horry County and beyond, the band is finally landing some dates along the Grand Strand. Pawleys Island Tavern has been receptive to the group, which has several concerts booked there over the next two months, and the four members will perform this weekend at The Afterdeck on Restaurant Row as part of a weekend Labor Day jam featuring several other bands. "There's not a whole lot to outgrow here, but I guess we have outgrown Aynor," said drummer and vocalist Clay Johnson about the band's hometown. The only local bar where the group performed, the After Dark; has since closed its doors, and, other than a few parties and a gig at the Razzle Dazzle in Nichols, the band has about run its course west of the Waterway. "In Conway, there's a couple of places I guess we could get into, but they're country, and we really don't do country," Johnson said. What The Resistors do play is a tight, blues-heavy set of rock 'n’ roll, a combination of originals and covers. The band's self-titled debut EP features four covers of tight, blistering rock 'n' roll, including "Couldn't Stand the Weather" by Stevie Ray Vaughan, Jimi Hendrix's "Red House, "Brown Sugar" by The Rolling Stones and an obscure classic by The Yardbirds, "Heart Full of Soul." |
