Artist History
Moving Coil is a "One Man Band" (but with some collaborators), with roots settled on the so-called Indie Rock, but with some danceable elements in its sound. It arised in January 1999, following the vanishing of another project - Vapour Trail - created in the Spring of 1998. Vapour Trail corresponds to a period of learning, both in terms of songwriting and recording techniques - but, anyway, it has a track in the magazine/CD Promúsica of March 99. In July of 1999 came into existence the first Moving Coil recording - "Love Comes Later", issued by the label Som Sónico. Some of the tracks of this work had some nice airplay in shows devoted to portuguese bands! In September, Moving Coil took part on the Som Sónico compilation "Keep The Noise" with the track "The Astonishing Fall V. 2.0" (a new version of a song originally signed by Vapour Trail). In November a new recording was finished - the demo "Autumn", that received good national airplay and some nice reviews, also! In December came out a new version of the song "Seven Ways" (originally included in "Love Comes Later") on the December issue of the magazine/CD Promúsica. Moving Coil reached the 6th place - in the Rock class - in the portuguese competition "Prémios Maqueta 99". There were 83 bands competing in this category. In 2000, Moving Coil took part in the compilation "Looking For Something" with three tracks - "To A Shade", "Do We Know What's Missing?" and "Blue Velvet". January 2001 - we're promoting a new demo - "White Polaroids" and recording our first full-length record. |

Press Reviews
Try to imagine a route, sometimes sonic, other times closer to the tranquility of songwriting, but always in the climate of eighties "a la" nineties. Understood? Have a nice journey! In Trafico Alternativo.Moving Coil embraces the american Indie Pop, showing a clear influence of bands like Red House Painters (clearly noted both in vocals and instrumentals) or Sonic Youth. In Musicnet |
