    Artist History
No frills. No samples. No pyrotechnics. Earl is a working-man's band that connects with the audience through raw musical energy and a stripped-down approach to rock and roll. They write real music with honesty and heart. Earl's unique collection of original material is reminiscent of Big Star, early R.E.M., and the Replacements. Building on diverse musical influences, Earl has evolved into a band with a style hard to characterize. Earl resonates with the intensity of garage rock, the anguish of old-school country, and the subtle lure of melodic pop.Earl is a true original. Jimmy Kennedy, the band's front man, animates Earl's sound as if you were watching a moving picture of the music. His stage presence communicates an unbridled control, commanded not only by his voice, but also by an impressive, tactful harp in just the right places. In perfect contrast is Dan Niewoehner on lead guitar. His distinctive style is one in which former band-mates have often referred to as "twangadelic". Dan's musical experience and professionalism shows, and his recent addition to Earl has created a whole new dimension and depth to their sound. Jimmy and Dan are backed by a tightly balanced rhythm section. Chris Keale on Drums and Sean Barnes on Bass hold it all together to form one of the most exciting and complete groups in the St. Louis area.Earl, formerly Bender, has been together since '98 and has built a strong following with their frequent shows at 'The Way Out Club', the band's home venue. Ask any regular of the Way Out about them, and don't be surprised if they tell you Earl is one of their favorites on the local scene. Venues performed: Firehouse, Side Door (RIP), Hi Pointe, Mississippi Nights, The Way Out Club, Karma Club, Red Sea, Boomers, Trainwreck, Ten Mile House, and The Curtain Club (Dallas, TX)
