Artist History
DEWAYNE JENSEN’S D.J. career began in 1979 when his mother, a former manager of legendary Detroit based motown group’s , decided to buy him a unique birthday gift. The gift turned out to be two turntables and a mixer. He soon began mastering his skills at private parties and high school functions. He quickly moved through the ranks and began a long streak of residency’s begining in 1981 with a spot at a legendary underground club called the Downstairs Pub. The pub was the fuel of the fire that opened up Detroit’s hunger for underground music. Next came residency’s at Luomo, Cheek’s, Studio 54, Heyjudes, and Lanotte. Mr. JENSEN became very sought after for underground music and his talent as a disc jockey. He then decided to attend college at Eastern Michigan University. There he met and became friends with such notables as Kevin Saunderson-lnnercity, Derrick May-Transmat, Eddie Fowlkes-CityBoy, Art Payne-StreetSound, Mike Clark-Agent X, Juan Atkins-Metroplex and Norm Talley Chisel Records. They all clicked and became good friends. Back then they dj'ed fraternity and sorority party’s . They began to spin together and to experiment with musical equipment along with Deejaying. You can really say that a lot of the early techno was developed at Eastern Michigan University. He next decided to start his own label and Session Records was formed. He released two EP’s on this label both were very well received in the underground. He also did an internship with Polygram Record’s were he worked in the dance department for two years. There he learned how music is done on a major level. The time there refueld his fire to make music and to run his own label. He next teamed up with a local producer named Derrick Thompson and released an EP on his Soirre label along with a remix for Scott Grooves. The EP and remix received much acclaim and respect worldwide. Next, he decided to start a new label called Fathom Records a label dedicated to making true underground tracks that you can feel. He released two e.p's the first called the "Travler" EP the second called the "Dancer E.P. both available on 12 inch vinyl. He is currently working on remixes for "Inner City" on KMS, a new E.P on KMS. A releases on Track Mode, U.R, Sound men On Wax , Moods & Grooves, and Cyclo records , Chissel Records plus a mixed CD for Fathom . |
