Artist description
Defcon One was started around June 1998 by Marco (guitar) and Ruud Bänziger (guitar). Soon after, bass player Yuri joined, and half a year later, Herman (drums) and Wilbert (vocals) completed the line up. Around June 1999 enough songs were written to start playing live; Within the following year Defcon One played numerous gigs supporting bands such as Rebaelliun, Ancient, Macabre, Shadowbreed and Dead Head. One could describe Defcon One’s style as technical Death Metal with a melodic edge, although there’s still enough room for a healthy dose of brutality. Influences come from bands like Carcass, Pestilence, Suffocation and Nocturnus among others. From Oktober 1999 to May 2000 Yuri was temporarily replaced by Mattijs de Valk (now in Inbreed), because Yuri went to Australia. After 6 months he got tired of drinking Aussie booze all the time, so he returned, and rejoined the club (multiple thanx to Matthijs for helping us out. In May 2000 Defcon One won the Molenrock talenthunt, at a local pub, guitarist Marco Jeurissen also got the best guitarist of the day title. By winning this talenthunt, Defcon One gained themselves two days of studiotime and… In September 2000, a demo-cd was recorded in the Klank Studios in Tegelen, Holland, co-produced by Marcel Coenen (ex-Lemur Voice/Sun Caged/Form). This cd will be out around December 2000 and contains five songs. Hopefully we’ll see you at one of our gigs, check out the live-dates to see where and when we will play. Stay metal!!! |
