    Press Reviews
San Antonio weekender, week of November 24, 2000:A Poet's Mind. So you've been surrounded by family. So family has been surrounded by you. Everyone needs a break from everyone else. You might need something completely different. That you'll find Sunday from 7 to 11 p.m. at El Toro, 3000 N. St. Mary's St., when poet Edgar Pace and his musical friends celebrate the release of an album called "A Poet's Mind." Billed as "Rhythms & Rhymes," the event is free. Pace, accompanied by keyboardist Cinda Roesler and Dizzy Powell, has put together a group called A Poet's Mind, subtitled "The band based on a book." the trio describes its art as "groove poetry," and it's an apt description. Pace has a deep, resonant voice and constructs poems that work nicely when set to the beats and music of Roesler and Powell. But make no mistake, this is not moon/spoon/June poetry. Pace also has a keen eye, a sharp wit and wide-ranging imagination. Pace casts the eye and the wit on subjects ranging from love to poetry itself. The keyboardists have done a good job of accenting Pace's words without overpowering them. Hey, you might even be able to dance to A Poet's Mind.
