Artist History The Beat Brigade was started by Joey Mapes in 1998. He originally called himself"The Great Lakes Beat Brigade". In the summer of 2000, Joey Mapes hooked up with a Kalamazoo DJ/Producer named DJ Lozo (Lorenzo Flores). Lozo was currently working on his own project and performing with a trip-hop group called "I, Robot". After, numerous brainstorming/production sessions Lozo and Joey decided to work on a project together and called themselves "The Beat Brigade".Lozo had already been working with local artists and other producers and called upon them to appear on the project. The Beat Brigade has expanded to include Mello M.I.C., Theologic, and King Solomen. The Beat Brigade has releasedfour singles that have gotten college radio and club play. The crews first public release will drop in late December, 2000 and will be a break beat 12" vinyl release entitled "Beat Brigade Breaks". It will feature 3 songs and more importantly, a B-side of instrumentals.
