Artist History
Regurgitate formed in late 1990 when Rikard Jansson made up his mind that he would start a vicious grindcore band. Joining forces with his friend Mats (who was the drummer of f and General Surgery), the skeleton for what would become one of the most revered and respected underground gore-grind acts to hit the scene in years was beginning to take shape. In October 1991, Rikard and Mats decided to record their first demo tape. The duo entered Sveastrong Studios and recorded 11 blistering tracks of classic, full-on grindcore. The running time of that demo was approximately two minutes long, and for a debut recording the band was very satisfied. Rikard printed loads of fliers for the demo and included them in every bit of his mail and worldwide correspondence thereafter. After only a short time, orders for the cassette started to flow like blood. The word was out - there was a new player on the scene. Regurgitate were gaining momentum... After some months, Rikard received a call from Germany's Poserslaughter Records. The underground label had heard the demo and wanted Regurgitate to record new tracks for a split 7" ep with Vaginal Massaker (Ger). At the same time, Rikard asked his good friend Peter (who also handled the drums in Merciless, Entombed and Murder Squad) to help the band out with thequad to help the band out with the drumming duties. Peter, realizing the band's potential, agreed despite all of his other band commitments. Regurgitate began to concentrate on composing and rehearsing new tracks, and in March 1992, the three youngsters again entered Sveastrong Studioss and recorded the five new cuts which would later comprise the Poserslaughter split 7" EP with VAGINAL MASSAKER. In the summer of 1992, the record wd later comprise the Poserslaughter split 7" EP with Vaginal Massaker. In the summer of 1992, the record was released as a limited edition of 1,000 copies and received exceptional response from extreme grind lovers and underground music aficionados the world over. As time went by, Rikard encountered Giulio Baldizzone, the vocalist of the italian grind/punk/crust band Cripple Bastards. Giulio asked Rikard if Regurgitate were interested in recording some new tracks for a split 7" EP with the Spanish grindcore band Psychotic Noise, which Giulio intended to release on his label, Glued Stamps Records. Regurgitate thought the split was a great idea, and in January 1993, the band ventured to the friendly confines of fellow grinders Arse Destroyer's rehearsal room and recorded nine new songs. Seven of the nine tracks that the band recorded were released by Giulio, and the two others were later released as a split 7" with Japan's Grudge by Narutoshi Sekine and Obliteration Records (Jap). The Grudge 7" included the 1991 demo as bonus tracks. Both the Psychotic Noise and Grudge splits were released in limited editions of 1,000 copies and were sold out within a few months of their release. In 1993, Poserslaughter Records initiated the idea of a split Regurgitate CD with German death/grind monsters Dead. Regurgitate loved the idea and accepted the label's offer. Simultaneously, Peter left the band due to time constraints and was replaced by Mats. A fellow grind-lover named Urban (who also played in Crematory) assumed the guitar duties. Upon Urban's initiation, Regurgitate started to compose new material for the forthcoming split CD. In November of 1993, the band went into the studio and recorded eight manic slices of gore which featured a bit more death metal leanings than did previous material. The CD was released in June, 1994, furthering Regurgitate's underground infestation. In January 1994, Urban and Rikard kicked Mats out of the band because they wanted to concentrate on playing pure, sick grindcore exclusively (Peter wanted to go in a different direction) and Regurgitate was a two-man band once again. Rikard asked Peter if he could help them out from time to time in the future. At the same time, Regurgitate received an offer from Hans of Lowland Records for a one-off full-length CD release. Rikard told Peter about the deal, and, for the second time, Peter became a member of the band. Urban asked his friend Joppe from Crematory to join, and Joppe accepted. Regurgitate then agreed to the Lowland deal and were soon rehearsing again, with a strong underground following now behind them. In May, 1994, Regurgitate recorded 37 new tracks of total grindcore madness at the GMB Crematorium. - material which turned out to be Regurgitate's best. The full-length CD was released simultaneously with the split CD, resulting in some problems between Regurgitate, Lowland and Poserslaughter Records because of the fact that Lowland was a bit too fast in getting their release out. The full-length, titled Effortless Regurgitation Of Bright Red Blood, received an exceptional response, and underground labels from around the world made offers to the band. In August of 1994, the band decided to record yet another demo, and in September 1994, Regurgitate went back to the GMB Crematorium and laid 17 new tracks onto tape. These songs would later comprise the infamous Concrete Human Torture demo (1994). In March 1995 Regurgitate went to Germany as part of a mini-tour with Dead Infection, Gut and Entrails Massacre. Back in Sweden, Rikard came in contact with a German fan named Ralf via mail correspondence. Ralf wanted to release a Regurgitate/Intestinal Infection split 7" ep. Regurgitate agreed, and in mid-1996, the record was released and included additional tracks from the full-length CD. In 1996, Relapse Records started to show interest in Regurgitate and wanted to re-release the Effortless Regurgitation Of Bright Red Blood album. Unfortunately, Regurgitate had become a little bit tired of the music, so nothing really happened and the case was closed... for a short time. In November 1998, Rikard asked Relapse if they were still interested in re-releasing the Effortless... album. Shortly thereafter Regurgitate were members of the Relapse family. Released in May 1999 with a new and improved lay-out, the disc was re-titled Effortless Regurgited Effortless Regurgitation... The Torture Sessions. This classic grind masterpiece is now available for all to hear and experience with the addition of not only the Concrete Human Torture demo, but also the split 7" EPs with Psychotic Noise and Grudge. Effortless Regurgitation... contains 64 tracks of pure fuckin' grindcore in its most revolting and disgusting form. Regurgitate has since reformed and are lurking... biding their time until their next onslaught is unleashhed! Since signing to the Relapse family, the blood-soaked saga of Regurgitate continues in the shape of Carnivorous Erection. Quite possibly the most offensive gore-grind album of all time, Carnivorous Erection is bound to shock, displease and cause controversy in every country that will allow the album through customs. Trust us, Carnivorous Erection will be the most talked about album of 2000! And you can count on Democratic vice presidential candidate Joseph Lieberman and Tipper Gore receiving their fair share of copies. |
