Artist description
The premiere all-women, mostly Irish band from Bakersfield, California! We play the music we love, with great zest and a dash of invention. We're all over forty and latecomers to the "band thing". But we dig that toe-tappin' Irish sound, that O'Carolan lilt, and we make it all our own, as you'll hear! |
|
Music Style
mostly Irish traditional, other Celtic trad, with the odd folk and rock influence thrown in. |
|
Musical Influences
Cherish the Ladies, Altan, Solas, Dervish, Zan McLeod, Mark Stone, Joanie Madden, Bill McNamara, Mick Moloney, Sonja O'Brien, the Chieftains et al, the Pogues, and others too numerous to mention. |

Artist History
A couple of years ago, Nancy, Jill and other friends discovered a mutual interest in traditional Irish music. What's more, they all started showing up places and playing all five tunes they knew together! Well, discontent with the small time, they started wangling invites to play in all sorts of public situations, and expecting to be paid (for playing music, that is)! No gig too out of the way for this group: from the zoo to a Texaco rack bay, the chill pre-dawn in front of a local pharmacy, the street, the cafes, oh yes, and some real upstanding social events, too! The tradition (ahem) continues with our current lineup: Mamas Midlife Crisis is still known for showing up in odd places and playing our hearts out! |

Press Reviews
...Mama's Midlife Crisis has released a sampler...titled "Meet the Mamas" on MP3.com. While Mamas fans probably already have these cuts, which are all available from their "Live from the Living Room" album, it does provide new listeners with a positive introduction to the group. ...listeners will find these vibrant and energetic arrangements to be some of the group's highlights, particularly Lilting Banshee. Definitely recommended for fans of Celtic music. -reviewer at AllMusic.com
