Outbreak of EPIDEMIC reported in Los Angeles, 2001-
(Background) The infection has just begun... The musical movement known as hip hop has spread like an epidemic, and like an epidemic, the music and culture is contagious; infiltrating the mind, body, and soul of the masses.
Now spreading out of the Los Angeles underground, a new manifestation of hip hop has emerged... EPIDEMIC. With their hard hitting beats and spit-fire flows, EPIDEMIC members (brub, DocDaWhoo?, J.L.C., Minus, Varius and Vega-One) are bringing back the "rawness" that had traditionally separated hip hop from other genres of music.
Together since 1992, EPIDEMIC can be best described as students of life: drawing inspiration and influence from the music, art and community around them. The result, a new and unique sound they like to call "Infectious Hip Hop."
(Outbreak Investigation)
First reported outbreaks of EPIDEMIC came in the form an underground mixtape "The Prelude", which received the attention and praise of music fans and media outlets in Los Angeles and nationwide (The Album Network, The Hip Hop Show, Farmclub.com, CMJ, Hits Magazine, and Elemental, to name a few). Industry buzz from the mixtape garnered an appearance on the internationally syndicated radio program "The World Famous Wake Up Show with Sway and Tech" in August of 2000. Secondary outbreaks were reported as group member Varius followed with an appearance as a guest MC on the UPN television show "The Source: Sound Lab."
Now in the year 2001, EPIDEMIC is spreading the infection to a larger audience. The first 12" single "Death of a Rap Star" and "Styles" quickly became a staple on the college radio, record pool and mix-show circuit, while leaving an indelible impression with hip-hop fans worldwide. EPIDEMIC has been invited to open for powerhouse hip hop acts like Hieroglyphics, Planet Asia, Phil The Agony, The Visionaries, E-Rule, and the World Famous Beat Junkies.
(Conclusions) Our data indicates global outbreaks of EPIDEMIC are emanate. EPIDEMIC is set to release their first LP this fall. For more information on EPIDEMIC, please contact:
