Artist description
Guitar and bass are bent, struck, scraped, and bowed in order to coax otherworldly sounds out of them. The vocals are both consoling and unsettling, ranging from whispered confessions, to infernal howls. Unconventional musical instruments -metal detectors, oscillators, televisions, scrap metal - all have roles in the sound of Stendhal. Neither summarily rejecting traditional song structure, nor embracing it, Stendhal has made it their mission to make new music. |

Artist History
Stendhal is a four-piece outfit risen from the depths of the Philadelphia music scene. Born out of the desire to explore untouched sonic landscapes, Stendhal began construction late in the summer of 1999. Stendhal has also provided live soundtrack for theater, including the play Amputation Nation in it's 21-show run at the Adrienne Theater, and has performed to many sold out houses as a premier act in the 2001 Philadelphia Fringe Festival. The band released the eleven song full-length, "Impure", in October of 2000 and is actively promoting the album throughout the region. A new full length CD is in the works for 2002, as well as continued, and increased, live performances.
