Artist description Baywatch meets Jeff Beck in Plant, a lifeguard who divides his time between San Diego and South Florida, saving lives and jamming on what he calls alternative surf-rock that sounds like “Nirvana meets Jeff Beck.” While comparing yourself to Beck is a ballsy move, others apparently agree, as Plant has won Guitar Wars competitions on both coasts (including one thrown by The Gater radio station in West Palm Beach). His Going Off CD, released in 1998, is available at Peaches and at his Web site, www.jamesplant.com. Since winter is just beginning, that means Plant is back in South Florida, putting together a band to play at clubs such as, appropriately enough, the Surf Cafe.
