Press Reviews
The Sun Masons produce a sound that is bigger, more interesting, and more intense than that of any other three-piece band since Rush. Their overall sound is vaguely reminiscent of the early Police, but their music is much more complex, involving a lot of time changes and odd meters. Playing this type of music is always a challenge, but the Sun Masons deliver, staying together so the quirky time changes are smooth, holding down a rock-solid, funky groove and turning in virtuosic solos (bass as well as guitar). This music appeals to your head as well as your feet.--Greg Dempsey When the Sun Masons play they always succeed in making a giant impression. Is it stage presence? Charisma? Or even meaningful lyrics? Naw, just ace musicianship backed by songs that could easily translate to a record label one of these days. When asked to highlight the band's most salient asset, many point to bassist and vocalist Sam Bevan, a man who travels the fret-board like a cheetah across an African valley.--Ben Fulton |
