Artist History
In 1989, #0 and #1 joined "Electric Shift on the Fly", a heavy shredding metal band. 0 & 1 began their love for grind metal at this time. After recording just one album, the band broke up, and 0 & 1 went solo. They decided to call it Skwareknot, after the one kind of knot that former boy scout 1 couldn't make. They rounded up their 30 or so closest personal friends and strated rocking. They released their debut album in 1992, to so-so reviews. With the signing of a solid record contract, they were able to re-release the self titled album on a major label in 1993, as well as put out "Die Die Die" in 1994. Though critics called it a complely one dimensional, horrible album, the song "Depressed (Acoustic)" won much acclaim from their fans. Skwareknot hadn't sold out, they just went worldwide. Shaky band relations and a contractual obligation to release three more albums within five years pressured the band to release "Hernia" in 1995. This was made up of some rerecorded demos and b-sides from "Die Die Die", with a couple new songs. It was not their best work, and completely flopped. Again, the shining light on a bad cd was an acoustic song. The acoustic version of the fan favorite "Kill Me Now" became hugely popular, and got decent radio play. Determined not to put out another bad album, the band spent two years recording their next record "Cry For Help." With depression and anger in full effect, they finally made a complete album of decent songs. After having fallen out with most major rock scenes, they hit the indie circuits in a few cd's and got a loyal following again. Nine members of a soon-to-be-famous band took in a show during this tour. They would later change the name of that band to Slipknot. Slipknot's album having become hugely popular, Skwareknot's members believed that the end was near. Their influence was so great over these new kids, that the songs of the two sounded almost identical. Regrouping in the summer, and still recording now, they're making "Quiet." This is partly meant to expand their musical horizons, and partly to show that they are still the original bad boys they were in 1992. **For a more "detailed" history of the band, go to Skwareknot's website and go to the disclaimer section on the Bio page. |
