    Artist History
In 1990 at a party in Helaby Yorkshire, two young lads from Leicester met, got completely pissed and started a band! They were Matt Smith (guitar) and Joe Grace (vocals), within the week Matt had contacted 'Veg' (Mathew Venebles, the drummer from hell). Matt and Veg were at school together in 'Ashby de la Zouch', and had played in a succession of school bands.Veg is the only bloke we know who only seems to get pissed after about 18 pints, and then only falls over after about 22. This would appear to be a drummer thing!Once headlining at the 'Venture Theatre' in Ashby, we had to prop him up at the drum kit, but amazingly he still played like a demi-god. He has now earned the reputation of being amongst the best drummers on the circuit.Basically too lazy to learn cover versions, Matt and Joe started writing songs immediately, which we at the time thought were the dogs bollocks', but were in hindsight just--well-..bollocks!Our writing style has improved a lot since then-..Well, we think so, we hope you do too!Although the basic song structures usually begin with a riff idea from Matt Smith, the songs really take shape when the rest of the band add their input. Joe usually writes and structures the lyrics, based on ideas from the rest of us.We went through a succession of bass players who were varieties of crap, crap and stoned, good, good and stoned, and finally brilliant and occasionally stoned, if you've got good shit! We call him 'H' (Matt Hemstock to his mother). In 1990, at 17 we thought Van Halen were gods, don't worry the phase passed. Soon it was Sound Garden, Faith No More, Rage Against The Machine and harder edged dance influences such as Prodigy and Chemical Brothers. The latter influences coming from Rodders (Matt Rhodes) when he joined the band (keyboards and samples). He is obsessive about quality dance, and is thus an excellent DJ. The depth of sounds and melodies he brings are one of the key elements of our sound. You may have noticed a lot of Matt's above-. that's because we are all Matt except Joe, which gets really irritating when he say's "where's Matt?"The latest 3-track demo (the tracks that appear here) was recorded in two days at Channel House Studios in Bristol. The demo is our first time in a 'proper' digital studio (pro tools etc.) and it shows, the quality pisses all over our earlier recordings. The CD 'dysfunctionally yours' was recorded across two sessions, each two days at 'Gems' recording studio in Boston, following a couple of early 16 track attempts at 'Beatroute', in Loughborough.Time constraints on the recording (due to cost) were extremely frustrating, not being able to finish to our satisfaction on the majority of tracks. But at least it gives a taste of our writing style, which has become increasingly more hardcore, but we hope is still accessible.'Sender' is definitely a live band, that's were our strength is, that's what we love, and that is what our loyal throng of supporters love!Live or recording our biggest asset is Joe, and not just because of his voice, he is a natural entertainer, so even if our sound is not your thing, you will still, have an excellent time at our gigs.We just want a good time for us, and the crowd, that's what makes us want to kick ass on stage, that and the parties afterwards! We've had offers to go out to the US to do a mini tour of the East Coast, and also out in Holland, which we intend to follow through money permitting. In the mean time it would be great to get some recognition, backing and quality management by a quality label.
