Musical Influences
Since I'm a producer/DJ, my musical influences come from just about every genre of music. It could be Jazz, Classic Rock, Soul/R&B and even Gospel. But what I'm moved by most is the many different producers out there developing thought provoking music. Music that I can see, feel, and even escape in. Music is the soundtrack of life... |

Similar Artists
Marley, Marl, Pete Rock, Primo and Dre. I would say that I have my own style, but I'm influenced by them. |

Artist History
A PRIME EXAMPLE?Music is the soundtrack of life,? explains Scott A. Lindsey, better known in Hip Hop circles as PRIME. It is his philosophy which has made PRIME the most anticipated Hip Hop producer to come out of the Midwest, and his approach to track making ensures that he will be a formidable influence in rap music for years to come.PRIME began his love for music at birth, enamored with Jazz, Gospel, Soul, and even Rock & Roll. With a good ear for music and no formal training, PRIME found himself intrigued by the creativity of those ?behind? the music: the producer. A self-study of favorite producers from the likes of Quincy Jones and Creed Taylor intensified his love of music, and expanded his collection of records at a very young age.During the birth and growth of Hip Hop, PRIME was fascinated with those behind the music, the guys with all the turntables and the records who made the MC?s sound good: The DJ. Imitating the likes of Grandmaster Flash as well as local Columbus DJ's, PRIME developed his own style of play which would later gain him recognition throughout high school and college. At Bowling Green State University, where he earned a Bachelor's Degree in Interpersonal Communication from his football scholarship, PRIME was the top DJ on campus. This standing inspired him to take his talents to the airwaves, where he was not only a radio personality, but also the Urban Music Director at WBGU 88.1. PRIME decided to hone his skills and focus his talents on pursuing his greatest dream: becoming a hit Hip Hop producer. Using his dorm room as a primary location, Studio B-237 (his actual room number) was launched. In that one room, he co-founded his first rap group, Black Minds of Music, which eventually recorded more than 70 songs, performing in local shows and shined as opening acts for X-Clan and Minister Louis Farrakhan over the course of his college career. PRIME continued to produce Hip Hop tracks after college, working with local artists in his hometown of Columbus, Ohio. He contributed to the fast-selling Columbus Mob album 'MIDWEST FUNK SOUNDTRACK'. PRIME produced Jakk-N-Jill's "The Chronic" and assisted production on Insane's "Tahitian Treat" and AKA & Eddie B's "The Outro". Tai-Pan, PRIME's friend from college, was next to blessed with the skills of PRIME on his first full-length album entitled 'THE RISE, THE FALL, THE RISE' on Educated Records, exclusively produced by PRIME which sprung the single of the same title featuring Terri Whitlow formerly of Teen Dream. The summer of 1996, PRIME released his debut solo effort, 'BUSTOWN FLAV', a cassette EP which became the hottest collection of independently produced songs everywhere on the Columbus streets. The hit single "Bustown Flav", the personal confession of "Ax Anybody" and "Dis Style (featuring Ci-Dubble and Taleeb)" are among the EP's brightest moments. Because of it's success, PRIME was rewarded with opening show dates with Redman, Jamal & Keith Murray; all of the respected Def Squad. Spring of 1997, Columbus witnessed the exclusively produced Taleeb 'TALEEB: VERBAL TACTICS', which featured the hit singles such as "I Smell A Blunt" and "Verbal Tactics". But with the radio success of "The Circumstances", PRIME has been the most sought after producer in the city. PRIME is always in the studio building his resume by producing tracks for local artists such as S.P.I.R.I.T., Tystix & Curt Guinn, BHB, Cosmic Child Innovations, as well as his own group SCAMM! whose album entitled 'The Arrival' is baing' in SUV's around the country. Other artists locally and outside the city limits are being serviced by PRIME such as Dayton, Ohio's Industry Recordings artist Akil and Tall Entertainment standouts 275 and Robert Jackson who have now caught the attention of Parrish (PMD) Smith with their release of 'Tall Life: The CD Compilation'. Two hours north to Toledo, OH, Glass City Recordings' artist D-Ray and Nutzo have been provided the "Bustown Flav"
as PRIME calls his style). With hits like "Iz On" and "Love 4 Tha Glass" as well as "Nutzo Stylin'", these two once owned the champion spots of their local radio stations' "Battle of the Beats" for several weeks. Staying busy, PRIME has released his long awaited second release 'THE BIRTH OF MR. JOSHUA: the breakneck pace experience'. The first single released was a hot joint called "Speaking of Me" featuring the lyrical skillz of his new protege PROFANE backed by a remix and a bonus joint "Blazin' Hot" also featuring PROFANE and newcomer Sneak. Currently, a tribute to his childhood youth, "Rewind (Joshua's Song)", has made it's way a a single accompanied with a hot old school remix as well. "Rewind" has recieved and enormous amount of exposure thanks to MP3.com's Hip Hop Radio Show hosted by DJ Paradise (formerly of X-Clan). Also, be on the lookout for "Rewind" to be featured on the J-Rawls' B.U.K.A. Entertainment compilation release 'Bring It Home Vol. 1'. PRIME is currently in the lab cooking up some of the most innovative compositions of hip hop artistry that this industry is in dire need of. Among some of the projects in the works include tracks for the follow up album for Tall Entertainment duo 275, newcomer Ronnie Briggs, Dayton's T.O.O.M.B., Tavaris as well as PRIME's next upcoming project aptly titled 'THE TALENTED MR. LINDSEY: applied behavioral science'.
Admiring the works of his favorite producers like that of Erick Sermon, Marley Marl, Pete Rock, DJ Premier, Dr. Dre, Timbaland and Orgainzed Noize; PRIME hopes and strives to be within this (as caliber of talent and admired by those after him as his is those before him.Columbus, Ohio knows what the world will soon find out: Scott A. Lindsey is a PRIME example of Hip Hop music at its best. |
