Artist History Karri Ojanen, a 24-year old Finn, started his career as DJ and electronic musician Karri O about 9 years ago. He’s a well-known electronic music artist in his home country Finland and also internationally. At the times when Karri started his career, techno and electronic music in general were still very new things in Finland and there were only few opportunities to get gigs since there were only few parties. Therefore Karri started to promote parties and club nights himself. Even though the parties he organised were still relatively small at that time, all of them were very successful. Soon Karri started to get more and more attention and more and better gigs and started to organise bigger parties. In 1996 Karri opened a record store called "Mono Records" in his former home city, Tampere. The store specialized in importing and selling electronic dance music and DJ equipment, such as headphones and mixers. Mono Records was the first shop of that kind in Tampere.In summer 1997 Karri closed the shop and moved to Helsinki to study and to push his life forward. However, Mono Records didn't die, but moved into the Internet to continue its life as a virtual record store. In 1998 Mono Records got its own domain, monorecords.com, and Karri began a DJ booking agency, Mono Bookings, alongside Mono Records. In 1999, the next logical step for Karri was to start a record label of his own, and so the first record on the label "Mono Records" was released on July 3rd 1999. The 12", which is called Bound by Water EP, features 5 tracks from 3 different artists: Finns Henri Hansen and Karri O. and Canadian Machine. The second release on Mono Records, the Mono Tone EP by Machine came out in summer 2000 and the third release on Mono, an ambient album called Signal to Noise Ratio by Machine, is planned to be released before December 2000.As a deejay, Karri smoothly mixes funky techno and fine electro tracks together. Although Karri's music is rhythmic and catchy enough to move any crowd, there's always an element of pure sonic experimentation that keeps the music sounding fresh and interesting each and every time he performs. In addition to ones of the best events in Finland, Karri has performed in Germany, Sweden, Russia, Canada, USA, Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania and gained lots of recognition and positive feedback from both party people and promoters. Lately Karri has been quite active especially in the Baltic countries (Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania) and he is now launching a new project, called Below, together with his Baltic associates and friends.
