Artist description
Element of Surprise released their debut CD last year entitled "Demo 2:001", the song "My Indulgence" immediately
garnered major air play for an unsigned act on local radio station Live 105.3 (KITS). The songs popularity among
listeners grew until it set the record for most wins (13 straight weeks) on the station’s "Local Challenge". The
band was picked by voters to open Live 105’s "Not So Silent Night" show, sharing the stage with signed acts such as
System of a Down, POD, Alien Ant Farm, Linkin Park, Puddle of Mudd, Sum 41, Adema, Insolence, Clutch and Dredg.
With the radio exposure bolstering an already rapidly growing fan base, E:OS began to gain recognition for the
energy filled live shows that showcased the musical prowess of the band, as well as the emotional connection the
songs made with the crowd.
Word spread about the band online as more and more people downloaded the band’s songs from MP3.com, ultimately
reaching over 40,000+ downloads in one year! The popular underground website ThePRP.com wrote, "this foursome have
single handedly crafted music that is boldly colorful and littered with fresh ideas while still being digestible
enough for the youth of today, its hard not to feel as though they have been taught from an entirely different
periodic table of elements altogether."
Element of Surprise sets out to create aggressive, emotional music that immediately engulfs it's audience. Zero
magazine wrote, "Element of Surprise provides such a presence, sound and total package that their popularity has
not slowed since they hit the scene." The dark and energetic songs are enriched by Jean's 9-string bass which
thumps out the low end while sprinkling melodies and harmonies with the high strings. Steve's percussive attack
accents the moods created by Baudin's bass, while still keeping the groove steady and strong. Pat adds heavy tones
but also fills in the softer moments with clean, moody chords that instantly change the atmosphere of the song. All
of this backs up the emotional and melodic voice of Andy Slipka, who can also turn up his aggressive side "full-throttle."
With a new batch of recordings, Element of Surprise is not slowing down one bit.
A new 6 track CD entitled, "U:PSIDE DOWN" has just been released. The band is supporting the release and expanding
their regional performances to new areas and new fans. |
