Press Reviews
“I have no idea what the title of this wildly eclectic CD refers to, but this is the first album I’ve heard in ages that reminds me of my “progressive music” youth. The initial thirty seconds of the first cut, featuring jazzy flute, pounding metronomic bass, space guitar and whooshy keyboards, set the tone for the rest of the disc. Not since the heyday of Jethro Tull and Argent in the mid-’70s have I heard such sounds. By golly, Bradford and his merry men (eight guys contributed various instrumental accompaniment as well as “va-va-voom, stomp box, samosas, and cigars”) act like punk, grunge, electronica, alt-country and alternative music never happened.
And bully for him. The last thing this world needs is another second-rate Ramones, Pearl Jam, or Matchbox-20 rip-off. So why not dip back into the era of Nixon, gas lines, and vinyl record albums to find inspiration? Damn if track 6 “It’s a Living” doesn’t sound like some crazy Climax Blues Band outtake....
The album’s lone soundtrack-inspired track is “On the Corner,” a poetic spoken word piece complete with slow jungle drums, a spooky backing male chorus of Gregorian chant driven mantras and that wacky flute which sounds right outta some Gil-Scott Heron energized ‘70s funk….
[Bradford] jumps around to jazz-fusion, pop, and good old intricate progressive rocking with an ease, wit, and charm of someone living in another time and space….”
