    Artist description
The Serpas Brothers duo is an energetic, highly polished and refined reaction of musical chemistry. Their music language, true to its Latin-American roots, has been regarded by many as a quintessential link between worldbeat and classical music. They follow a long lute tradition spanning from Bach to Villa-Lobos. At the same time, they combine their native rhythms of salsa, bolero, samba, flamenco, etc., with North American blues, jazz, and rock to create a unique blend of world music.

    Artist History
Born and raised in San Salvador, El Salvador, Guillermo and Roberto were brought up in a household that was highly appreciative of the arts, specially music. They received lessons on various instruments, but it was the highly versatile classical guitar that caught their attention. The Serpas family arrived in Calgary, Canada in 1983. The relocation became a powerful stimulus for Guillermo and Roberto, who were still in their early teens. Soon, they found themselves performing professionally. Eventually Guillermo obtained the degree of Bachelor of Music from the University of Calgary (1996), and Roberto, the degree of Masters of Music in composition from the University of Toronto (1995). Each on their own earned a successful living as free-lance musicians.Guillermo and Roberto founded the guitar duo "The Serpas Brothers" in January of 1997. Their vision was to encompass musical experiences they had grown with, and fuse them together to create a sound that is completely original. They developed a repertoire that covered a vast array of artistic strokes, which ranged from a sweet and dreamy ambiance, to a strong and powerful realm. Performances were booked, and soon they earned the reputation of artists of high standards and integrity. Their music became of great popular demand.By the fall of 1998 the self-titled CD, The Serpas Brothers, was released. Shortly after, Guillermo and Roberto were called for radio interviews and television performances. In December of that same year, The Serpas Brothers appeared on the weekly entertainment guide "What's up on the hit list" of the Calgary Herald. Music critic, James Muretich, reviewed the album and gave it four out of five stars. He praised it with the following words: "The brothers Guillermo and Roberto bring a virtuosity and vitality to every duo guitar instrumental they perform… A marvelous indie effort by two supremely talented guitarists".The Serpas Brothers have been received with great acclaim from the public and media critics. Their name is growing everywhere with astonishing success. Youthful and energetic, the brothers find themselves at the dawn of a fascinating career. They are fully empowered interpreters, composers, orchestrators and producers. For Guillermo and Roberto, prospects promise nothing less than success.

Guillermo and Roberto bring a virtuosity and vitality to every duo guitar instrumental they perform, from intricate, intense interplay on El Condor Pasa and Jiboa to a truly beautiful rendering of Samba Pa Ti (made popular by Santana)..."James Muretich (The Calgary Herald)."...The duo fuses flamenco-style technique and the virtuosity of classical guitar with Latin rhythms to animate their original compositions and breathe new life into well-known Latin melodies...The fact that the Serpas Brothers sound like a full band sets their style apart"...Pablo Richard Fernandez (The Calgary Herald) ------------------------------------------------------------------------
